Free COVID-19 Tests Available for NC Households through June 2023

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced a change to the Project Access COVID Tests program (Project ACT) that will allow all North Carolina households to request free, at-home COVID-19 tests through June 30, 2023. Residents are encouraged to order additional free tests while supplies last. For news details, please see here.

TestAndGo Self-Service Kiosk

Free COVID-19 Testing and Naloxone Kits are now available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through a self-service kiosk at Sampson County Health Department

COVID-19 Testing
The testing kiosk dispenses a test kit that includes a nasal swab, like other at-home tests, and instructions on collecting the specimen. There is no out-of-pocket cost for the tests provided through the kiosk, but for those individuals with insurance, their insurance will be billed for the test. Read self-test package inserts thoroughly and follow the instructions closely when performing the test.

PCR Tests:
Once the specimen is collected, it is safely packaged back into the kit and placed in the kiosk. The specimens are picked up daily and sent to an accredited lab for PCR testing. In many cases, individuals will receive notification of their test results by email or text within 48 hours of specimen collection.

Antigen (Rapid) Tests
Self-tests, or at-home tests, are antigen tests that can be taken anywhere without having to go to a specific testing site and detect current infection. Once the specimen is collected, antigen tests usually produce results in 10-15 minutes.

Naloxone Kits
Naloxone is a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose from opioids – including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription medications – when given in time. Naloxone is easy to use and small to carry. Naloxone Nasal Spray is one form of naloxone that anyone can use without medical training or authorization.
