Honor Guard

The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard was formed in November of 2003 with the blessings of Sheriff Thornton to provide services for all funerals relating to retirees and those currently serving in law enforcement. It should be noted that all members of the Honor Guard volunteer to be a part of such a prestigious team. They also participate in Memorial Services and local parades.

Some of the Honor Guard’s duties at these services include:

  • Performing as the color guard for parades
  • Participating in memorial services
  • Representing Sampson County at fallen officers' funerals statewide

Funeral Services include the following:

  • Posting guards at the casket
  • Changing of the guard
  • Flag ceremony at grave site
  • Presentation of flag to family

The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard was established to provide a professional and honorable service to those who have served as well as their families. It is an important and serious duty for us to respectfully honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and to show our gratitude to the fallen officer and their families.
