On Election Day, voting occurs at all 23 Sampson County precincts between the hours of 6:30 am and 7:30 pm. A voter must vote in their proper precinct.

You must vote in the precinct in which you are registered. You can change your precinct on election day, but it involves filling out additional paperwork. In order for your vote to be FULLY counted, you MUST vote in your CORRECT precinct. Voting out of precinct could result in a PARTIALLY counted ballot. It is much less complicated to simply pick up a new form, fill it out and send it to us at least 25 days prior to the election. We will then send you notification of your new voting place, voting districts, etc.

If you choose to vote one-stop absentee prior to Election Day (also known as “early voting”), you may vote at any one-stop location in Sampson County regardless of where your precinct is located. 

When you go to vote in person during “early voting” or on election day, you must give your name and current address and party affiliation to the precinct workers. Once it is determined that you are qualified to vote in the precinct, you will be given the appropriate ballot which you will mark according to the instructions printed on the top of the ballot.

Precinct Officials

G.S. 163-41 requires that election officials be registered voters and residents of the county in which the precinct is located, be of good repute, and be able to read and write. Those persons holding any elective office under the government of the State of North Carolina, or any political subdivision thereof cannot serve as a precinct official. Candidates cannot serve as precinct officials.
