Youth Sports Program Description

Developmental Youth Sports Clinics/Leagues

Sampson County boys and girls are introduced to the fundamental skills necessary to compete at higher levels of youth recreational sports.  These youth are usually between the ages of 4-8 years of age.   Clinics for such sports as basketball and flag football are available.  Older developmental age participants may participate in a team sport atmosphere with the emphasis being placed on participation and skill development.  These team sports include our coach pitch baseball leagues, machine pitch leagues, flag football leagues, soccer leagues, cheerleading teams and volleyball leagues The philosophy of these sports programs focuses on the athletic development of every participant and strays away from the recognition of individual achievement and winning in general.  These youths play on modified fields sizes, goals heights, and playing equipment.

Competitive Youth Sports Leagues

Sampson County boys and girls are introduced to competitive team sports such as baseball and football in the 3rd grade.  The department’s Youth Sports Leagues were formed from local recreation departments and associations in order to promote healthy exercise, teach basic skills, encourage community socialization through youth team sports, and to better utilized county funded resources.  The philosophy of these sports programs focuses on the athletic development of every participant and strays away from the recognition of individual achievement and winning in general but does reward team efforts with recognition.  Each league offers competitive competition against teams from each of the five recreation districts within the county’s recreation system.  Teams compete on a divisional level before entering a County Tournament as a culmination of the participants efforts throughout the season.
