SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT
Solid waste management issues are coordinated by the Environmental Health Office of the Sampson County Health Department. Their hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., weekdays.
Convenience Sites
Six of Sampson Countys municipalities Garland, Harrells, Newton Grove, Roseboro, Salemburg and Turkey contract with private solid waste management companies for the disposal and recycling of residential waste. The municipalities of Autryville and Clinton provide their own curbside services. For those citizens who reside outside of municipal boundaries, the county provides twelve convenience sites for the collection of solid waste and recyclables. All convenience sites are manned and operated by Waste Industries, Inc.The site locations and operating hours are:

Recycling
Each of the county convenience sites accept household garbage Items and the following recyclables: newspaper, cardboard, aluminum cans, clear, brown and green glass, plastic milk and soft drink bottles. The sites will only accept triple-rinsed pesticide containers. Used motor oil must be taken to the Snow Hill/Landfill convenience site. White goods can only be disposed of at the Ingold or Spiveys Corner convenience sites. Large bulky items and yard waste must be taken to the Snow Hill/Landfill convenience site. Recycled materials are transported to a materials recovery facility operated by ECVC (East Carolina Vocational Center). top
Tire Disposal
Scrap ties are accepted at the Sampson County Landfill. Residents are allowed to dispose of up to five tires at one time. Larger numbers of tires require a scrap tire certification form prior to disposal. top
Sampson County Landfill
Sampson County hosts a regional landfill that exceeds federal Subtitle D and state solid waste requirements. The landfill is owned and operated by Sampson County Disposal, Inc., a subsidiary of Waste Industries, Inc. The landfill is located at 7434 Roseboro Highway, approximately 8 miles west of Clinton and 4 miles east of Roseboro on Highway 24. The landfill will accept construction debris, demolition debris, commercial yard waste, business and residential waste between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Sampson County residents may dispose of household waste free of charge. Illegal Dumping
It is illegal to dispose of solid waste on county roadways and waterways. Illegal dumping should be reported to the Sampson County Sheriffs Office at 910/592-4141.
