Fees

All animals will be vaccinated prior to being adopted from the Sampson County Animal Shelter. Also, pursuant to the Sampson County Animal Control Ordinance, all adopted animals must be spayed or neutered prior to their release. The cost of initial vaccinations received while at the Animal Shelter and a voucher for spay or neuter (which is redeemed at Veterinary Medical Clinic located at 804 Southeast Blvd. in Clinton) are covered in the adoption fee. The cost of adoption for any cat includes all initial vaccinations and the cat will be spayed or neutered at the Animal Shelter before being released to the owner. Below are the associated costs:

DOGS:        
  
  • MALE: $85 (includes vaccines and neuter)
  • FEMALE: $105 (includes vaccines and spay)
  • OUT OF AREA ADOPTION (DOES NOT INCLUDE VOUCHER FOR SPAY OR NEUTER): $25 
CATS:

  • MALE: $70 ($10 adoption + $60 neuter)
  • FEMALE: $90 ($10 adoption + $80 spay)
  • OUT OF AREA ADOPTION (DOES NOT INCLUDE SPAY OR NEUTER): $10       
*ALL OUT OF AREA ADOPTIONS MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF RESIDENCE OUTSIDE OF SAMPSON COUNTY*

Reclaiming a pet
Valid proof of ownership must be provided at the time of reclaim. Valid proof includes but is not limited to: Rabies certificate, veterinarian paperwork, bill of sale with original purchase date, or any other document that provides proof of ownership. All owners must also have at time of reclaim a current form of identification. If the owner has received a citation from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division, a receipt for the paid citation must also be provided.

Refund Policy
No matter how careful the shelter is in attempting to match the right pet with the right family, there will be occasions where animals will be returned to the shelter. Adoption fees are non-refundable. Only the Department Head can override this policy.
